About Me

Award-winning artiste, one of the finest singers & songwriters in Ghana.

Alex is from Sanfo-Adum, a suburb of Bekwai, in the Ashanti region, Ghana. He was born to Madam Cecilia Adoma and the late Mr Kwabena Afful who encouraged his interest in music by buying him a tape recorder. Unfortunately, his father could not witness his fame or listen to any of his studio recorded songs as he lost him in 1991. He is the first of five siblings. At a very young age, he became the father of his siblings and shouldered great responsibilities from the onset. A situation which prepared him to become who he is today.

Alex attended his basic education at the Royal International School (Kumasi). He had his secondary education at the Toase Secondary School and continued his sixth form education at the Kumasi High School. He had his first degree from the University of Education, Winneba, Ghana. He did his master’s degree at the University of Portsmouth, UK. He received his PhD from the University of Southampton, UK. He is very grateful to God that He has helped him combine education with music very effectively, becoming the first Ghanaian Gospel Singer with a doctorate degree.

These words best describe Alex: God’s fearing, kind, quiet, appreciative, perfectionist, determined, humble and creative. He is married to Gloria Acheampong who is a graduate from the University of Surrey, UK. She works as a Registered Nurse, Midwife and Health Visitor. Alex is a dedicated dad with two children, Aimery and Mikaela.

CAREER

Alex Acheampong started his music career as a child at the Children Sabbath School Department of Bohyen SDA Church, Ghana. He was a member of the then Children Sabbath School quartet, now the Young Missionaries. Alex’s career in the music industry spanned over 30 years and still counting, with more than 100 songs to his credit. Some of Alex’s songs include Messiah, Emmanuel, Babylon, David Ba, Aka Sima, Saul among others.

Today, Alex Acheampong is an award-winning artiste, one of the finest singers and songwriters in Ghana and beyond. His songs focus on great lyrics that inspire. He is the leader and songwriter of the Young Missionaries Singing Group.

The Young Missionaries is one of the most popular singing groups in Ghana and beyond. The group first rose to fame in 1996 when they released ‘’Emmanuel‘’ and was an instant hit. This song is still often heard on the airwaves, church gatherings, weddings, outdooring and more especially funerals to console the bereaved. Music lovers have labelled most of their songs as inspirational, timeless and non-denominational.

Alex stood out for his creative songwriting skills. By the age of 10, he was composing. Anytime life throws a challenge at him or he feels sad, he finds solace in music and inspires to write songs to lift his soul and that of

others. He has been praised for his lyrical prowess and this skill was an integral part of what made him and the group so iconic. For example, his songs Emmanuel dominated the Ghana Gospel Chart in 1997 and 1998 and Babylon were among the Top 10 Ghana Gospel Chart in the year 2000.

He toured and spread the gospel via songs across almost every region and village in Ghana. He confirmed it was so hard over the years to access even a handful of people in the absence of social media channels, yet God gifted him massive listeners at the time. To this aim, he challenges God to help him reach millions of people with his songs at the time when social media platforms appear to be the easiest and fastest means to proclaim the gospel. To achieve this aim, Alex counts on all children of God to share his posts, subscribe to his YouTube channel and encourage people to do the same. He is very happy to see so many other SDA singing groups springing up to follow his Ghasfrica music style and composition. At the moment, Alex is managed by A3 music team and his wife.

FOUNDATION

In 2014, the Lord blessed Alex with a baby, born at 24 weeks. Humanly, there was no hope for her to survive. Doctors predicted an awful lot of serious health complications if she lives. She was admitted at the Neonatal Intensive Care for 100 days. However, by God’s grace, she survived without any complications. Today, she is very healthy and adorable. Her survival was partly due to the availability of medical facilities for preterm babies in the UK.
